Being very much aware of my own weaknesses, 'tis not often that I have stood before my God and sworn to carry out a mission. Yet, that I did on a warm Saturday morning in June, Nineteen Hundred and Forty-six. The words of that oath are imprinted above and on my heart and soul forever. For more than half a century, I have done my best to live up to that oath, both in times of war and in times of peace. I swore to support and defend the Constitution not only against foreign enemies, but domestic ones as well.
Today the threat from domestic enemies is as great, if not greater than any we have ever faced from foreign foes who have sought to bring about the downfall of our government and our way of life. These enemies from within threaten and attack the very foundations of our Country and they are to be found in the most unexpected places.
Albeit many of them have never seen a shot fired in anger, a few self proclaimed veterans are among those running down our heritage and even our Armed Forces. In loud voices they are fond of saying, we support our troops. Yet, in the same breath, they say, but you are involved in the wrong war, in the wrong place, in the wrong time and your Commander-in-Chief is an idiot. The money we are spending on you could be better spent buying us more benefits and freebies here at home. Not only that, you are ill-equipped and have gotten us bogged down in a quagmire. They also openly support politicians who say flag burning is OK because it is an expression that is protected by freedom of speech.
Though fearful of many things in life, they seem to have no fear of God Almighty or of turning their backs on Him. They agree with toning down our religion because it might offend someone. If you point out the fact that throughout history our Nation and its founders and leaders have openly worshipped God, they shrug it off and say that times are different now.
To those of you among us who have professed those beliefs, do not count me among your friends, for I have sworn before God to defend our Nation against the likes of thee!
